Chiropractic is a science, art, and philosophy that concern itself with the relationship between the nervous system and the function (health) of the body.

Origin:

The word Chiropractic is derived from Greek meaning "done by hand”. This treatment is known as an "adjustment" or a "manipulation” especially to the spine and other joints to help treat a variety of problems involving bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. This provides relief from pain or stiffness, and improves posture as well as the function of nerves, joints, and muscles.

Chiropractors (chiropractic practitioners) primarily use their hands to apply pressure to a joint or group of joints in the body.

Spinal manipulation has been practiced in Egypt and China since thousands of years but the modern chiropractic, however, is born in the 18th century. It was Daniel David Palmer, who proved that pinched nerves caused by misalignments of the vertebrae were responsible for nearly all disease and this can be treated by chiropractic. He started practicing it and is remembered as the foundation of many aspects of it today that he passed it on to his students.

Introduction:

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that the nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system in the body. While the skull protects the brain, the spinal cord is more vulnerable, only protected by 24 moving vertebrae. When these bones lose their normal motion or position they can irritate the nervous system. This disrupts the function of the tissues or organs these nerves supply and control. This is known as the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Chiropractic is the science of locating these areas of spinal malfunction, the art of correcting them, and the philosophy of things natural.

Chiropractic takes a structural, nutritional, and emotional approach to health care. The chiropractor aims to gently restore the natural and delicate balance that exists in all healthy individuals. This can be done by locating the vertebrae that do not move properly, particularly along the spine called subluxations and can cause inflammation and eventually pain and dysfunction in nerves, joints, and muscles. Using the hands gently subluxations is treated adjusting the bones along with their associated muscles and joints and help to restore the nervous system ensuring optimal function.

Chiropractic believes that the body has its own ability to maintain it healthy. When the nervous system is working at 100% all the cells, organs, and tissues possess the ability to fight off disease, injuries and ill health

Types of Chiropractors:

There are two types of chiropractors: Straight and Mixers

Straight: Chiropractors who deal only with locating and removing subluxations
(Spinal Adjustment) belong to this group. They believe that the condition will withdraw themselves through natural revitalization properties of the body. Their method of treatment consists of analyzing a patient for subluxations that would impede ones normal function.

Mixers: These are among the most popular kind of chiropractor, besides manual adjustments and treatments their philosophy and method of practice is combined with other modalities of healthcare like physical therapy, herbal therapy, heat, cold, ultrasound, muscle stimulation, massage, exercise programs and nutrition.

All Chiropractors generally have working relationships with M.D.s and D.O.s (doctors of osteopathy) and will refer you to one--often an internist or a neurologist--if your condition persists and further testing or treatment appears necessary.

All Chiropractors are licensed with a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) bachelor's degree, four to five years of graduate study in chiropractic care, as well as clinical training. But before you want to try this treatment always consult your general physician who may advise whether or not to go for this kind of therapy. As people suffering with rheumatoid arthritis, sciatica, or osteoporosis trying for a treatment with chiropractor can make the conditions worse in certain cases.

Make sure to consult your doctor and friends to know who is the best and chiropractor who can really give good treatment. Do not just look at advertisements and walk in to anyone
