| If you are Obese then
you are at a risk of any or few of the health problems
such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, certain types
of cancer, complications of pregnancy, menstrual irregularities,
gout, arthritis, (joint pain caused by excess uric acid),
and gallbladder disease problems such as sleep apnea (interrupted
breathing during sleep) and osteoarthritis (wearing away
of the joints). Hirsutism (presence of excessive facial
hair) psychological disorders (Depressions) etc. The more
overweight you are, the more likely you are to have health
problems.
Sometimes we wonder why some people don't seem to gain
weight, yet they eat as much or more than you? This
can be due to several factors:
Genetics-A family history of obesity increases your
chance of being overweight by 25%. Your genes play a
part in how your body uses calories and stores fat.
Age - The older we get, the more muscle we tend to lose.
Loss of muscle decreases metabolism and make us more
susceptible to gaining weight.
Gender - Muscle burns more calories than fat and because
men have more muscle, they burn up to 20% more calories
than women.
Activity Level - Overweight people are usually less
active than those of normal weight. However, activity
level is only one factor. The more active you are, the
more energy or calories you will burn.
Poor Diet - Eating high fat foods is the fastest way
to obesity. Fatty foods contain more calories than other
foods and therefore will cause excess energy to be stored
as fat.
