Types of fasting
Types of fasting

Throughout history fasting has been used for cleansing the mind, body and soul. Fasting is of different types that people tend to do adjusting according to their requirements. There are several types of fasting like total fasting, water fasting, liquid fasting, juice fasting, etc. It is important that you talk to your doctor before you start a fasting programme as medical monitoring it strongly suggested while on the below mentioned fasts.

Total fasting:

This is to abstain from food and water for a certain limit of time. Many people do this type of fasting. This begins from the early morning to the dinner time and people eat light food in the evenings or have a snack for dinner. While the same is done by drinking tea/coffee in the morning and not eating or drinking in between until the end of the day. Some of them continue this for a couple of days too. This type of fasting is easier and also good to start with.

Water fasting:
When doing water fast, all food intakes are stopped and only purified water is to be consumed. Drinking large amounts of water is very important in flushing out the toxins. This type should start with 12- 24 hours time in the beginning and then work your way up. Once your body gets adjusted to this water fasting it becomes easier for you as the desire for food will pass away and your body will be well on it's way to self-cleansing.

Liquid Fasting: This type of fasting begins with early cup of tea, coffee or water and while doing the regular chores and in between they consume the same liquids. This is done for a day or as long as they can work up. How far this will help your body to cleanse is doubtful here.

Therapeutic fasting:
This is defined as the complete abstinence from all substances except pure water in an environment of complete rest. Going without food for a few days - while working, exercising, worrying, etc. is not therapeutic fasting. A noisy, high stress and/or non-supportive environment will not provide the body the opportunity to maximize the self-healing mechanisms. To maximize the benefits of therapeutic fasting, complete rest is essential.

When properly applied and conducted, therapeutic fasting is one of the most potent tools available for assisting the body in healing itself. When abused or applied injudiciously, harm can result. The most important advice I can give anyone regarding fasting is this.

Juice fasting:
Juice fasting is commonly used as a mild and effective cleansing plan. It can be done with any fruits and vegetables for longer and is easier. This type of fast is also good for cleansing the body and for controlling weight. Your practitioner may also recommended you as it is safer than water fasting, and supports the body nutritionally while cleansing and probably even produces a better detoxification and quicker recovery.

Fresh juices are easily assimilated and require minimum digestion; they provide calories and nutrients on which to function and build new cells, and also provide the inherent enzymes contained in these vital foods

This type of fast is good for those who are just starting out. All solid foods will be discontinued and only fresh unprocessed fruit and vegetable juices will be allowed. To start this fast, begin with 24-hour fasts and then work your way up. Water should also be consumed along in between. Juice fasting can be a little rough on the bowels because of the high fiber content that is in some juices. If it becomes too much of a problem then just discontinue the fast until you have the time to stay home.

Raw foods are considered the healing force in our diet because they contain active enzymes, which are broken down when foods are cooked. Many health enthusiasts consider a raw-food diet the most healing and most nutritious diet.
