| Datuk Dr.Ridzwan Bakar, MBBS
(Mal) FAMM, FRCPE, FRCP (Ire) FRCP (Glas) FRCP (Lon), holds
the position of Chairman with Pantai Holdings Berhad, a public
listed company on the main board of the Malaysia Securities
Exchange Berhad, dealing with providing integrated healthcare
services. The company operates 7 tertiary hospitals in Malaysia.
He obtained his MBBS from the University of Malaya in 1975.
His post graduate qualifications include being a Fellow of
Royal College of Physicians in London, Fellow of the Royal
College of Physicians in Glasgow, Fellow of the Royal College
of Physicians in Edinburgh as well as Ireland.
After his post graduate training in England as a Cardiologist,
he became a lecturer at the National University of Malaysia
medical school before entering private practice in 1982. He
has, since 1982, been practicing as consultant Cardiologist
with Pantai Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
He is the President of the Association of Private Hospitals
of Malaysia since 1998. In September 2003 he was appointed
the President of the Asian Hospital
Federation which is a body comprising the
national hospital associations of 13 Asian Pacific countries.
In June 1999, he was awarded the Panglima
Jasa Negara (PJN) award, which carriers the
title 'Datuk' (equivalent to Knighthood) by his Majesty, the
King of Malaysia in recognition for his services to the nation
in healthcare services.
