Introduction:

Reiki is a form of massage therapy. Reiki is an ancient healing art that works with body, mind and spirit, and creates deep lasting benefits. Reiki is a Universal Life Force Energy that includes mind/body awareness and prevention techniques. This energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.

A Reiki healing is very simply performed. The practitioner places his or her hands upon the person to be healed, and then the energy begins flowing. The Reiki energy is smart and knows where to go, and what to do once it gets there, or else is being directed by a higher intelligence. The energy manages its own flow to and within the recipient. It draws through the healer exactly that amount of energy, which the recipient needs. All this happens without direct conscious intervention by the healer. The healers' job is to get out of the way, to keep the healing space open, and to watch/listen for signs of what to do next.

It is believed that Reiki can relieve pain, boost the immune system and relieves acute problems. This is believed because physical manifestations of pain are often linked to emotional, mental and spiritual states. Chronic illnesses may take a series of treatments, depending on the specific nature of the disease. Reiki goes beyond the symptoms to treat the root cause of the disease. When we treat only the symptoms, we do not always get to the true basis of the illness.

Origin:
Reiki a healing technique originated in Tibet and has been practiced for over 2,500 years. Various healing systems, which crossed many different cultures, emerged from this single root system. Unfortunately, the original source itself was forgotten. The name know today is "Reiki" a Japanese because that was Dr. Usui's native language. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei, which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power", and Ki, which is "life force energy." So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy" in Japanese.

Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator in Kyoto, Japan, rediscovered the root system in the mid- to late 1800s. He began an extensive twenty-one-year study of the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual leaders and discovered ancient sounds and symbols that are linked directly to the human body and nervous system which activate the universal life energy for healing. He called this form of healing Reiki and taught it throughout Japan until his death around 1893, and this tradition was passed through several grand masters in it. Though they are many forms of Reiki practiced now, the main two principal ones are: "the Usui System of Natural Healing" and "the Radiance Technique."
